12:29 . Fri . 22.02.08 - celebrity spotting #876562

David 'Hercule Poirot' Suchet came to the concert last night. He asked me where the gents were and after the interval, we exchanged knowing smiles when he showed me his ticket for readmission! My mum is going to wet herself when I tell her. She got me into Poirot as a kid. He had on a navy jacket with gold buttons and looked so undisappointingly (that's right) distinguished.

19:04 . Wed . 13.02.08 - Mysterious Mix!

I uploaded this for Ginnee (hi, duck) but you know, share the love! Let's dance our way out of this shitty month.

This is one of the CDs made for me by a dear colleague that I have loved the past few months (CD and colleague). I had to make a copy for my flatmate cos she wanted to go on holiday with it. I might upload the other CD at another point because there are some great songs on there too.

I don't know the names or artists of most of these songs so if anybody can help me out with them, that would be most appreciated. Especially Americans cos, I dunno, every indie band at the moment seems to hail from Portland.

Pieces of the puzzle:

1. Blonde Redhead - Top Ranking
2. ? - Furnituretwo
3. ? - My Baby
4. Start Your Engines - ?
5. The Hidden Cameras - Ban Marriage
6. The Organ - Let the Bells Ring
7. ?
8. Port O'Brien - I Woke Up Today
9. Yacht - I Believe In You
10. ?
11. Ruth - Polaroid Roman Photo
12. The New Pornographers - Streets of Fire
13. The Blues
14. The Bird
15. ?
16. Jason Anderson (& friends...) - Hold On
17. ?
18. ?
19. Viking Moses - Werewolves In The City
20. ?
21. ?

I went to work yesterday, to the arcade newsagents for The Times and complained about the broken umbrella I bought from them the night before when it was shitting down and was offered a replacement next time; put the paper on the waiting room coffee table, checked the post, distributed it. Sat and sat.

On the bad prints I staple together and use as notepaper, I wrote a scene about a long, lean androgynous woman in a stiff, high-collared mid-grey coat measuring carpet in a very particular, mannered, awkward beautiful way. In front of automatic doors that would go and go as she stepped in careful one-foot increments on the tape. I wait in great anticipation of what will happen to the carpet in front of my desk.

On the train to Leicester Square the only part of me that was not pressed upon by other bodies was the part of my forearm that was tapped by a woman sitting down, beckoning me to take the free seat next to her that nobody saw, and I smiled big with earphones in and said It's OK, Next Stop and she smiled shyly. I almost said You Made My Day.

But instead I waited with orange juice in front of Empire Cinema looking into the empty park that I have always thought they should never close even when it gets dark and hurt my hand repeatedly trying to get the lid off the juice. I turned to see a girl with the earphones and hijab looking into the park too, smiling to herself at my phone conversation. I asked her if she could take the lid off my juice. She smiled her big beautiful smile and removed the lid.

A man shook our seats laughing during all the sex scenes in Lust, Caution, which ruined the film for my flatmate. I loved the bit when the women scream when one of them wins a hand of mahjong by self-picking a joong because my dad makes as much of a fuss about it whenever he plays, and screams in a similar way.

Here are two really great songs. Especially good for cheering up. And inspiring one to feel all makey. And sing-y and dance-y.

song #1

song #2

AND she is good friends with Miranda July! Here is an interview to prove it.
